Getting To Grips With The Pain

Dad had an awful night. He was up the whole of it with severe pain in his liver area where the tumour is. Even 3 lots of Oxynorm didnt touch it. He was begging for something/anything to relieve the pain. The only thing Mum could think of was to give him a Morphine despite Lisa said he shouldnt take that with the Oxy. But I think anybody else in that situation woulda done the same thing. It worked which is what matters. I spent most of the day on the phone to arrange hospital transport for Dads appts n to try n get hold of Lisa to see what to do now we realise the Oxy 10mg morn and night isnt enough. When I couldnt get hold of her after I left several msgs I ended up calling the Christies hotline. A lovely lady called Brenda said he needed the Oxy dose upped and to call his GP to either get him to come out and see him or give us permission to up it ourselves. Got Dr Onon on the phone (not his actual GP but works at the same center) and he gave us permission to up it to 20mg morn and night and he'll change it in the repeat prescription. If 20mg still isnt enough then well talk about upping it to 30mg. What a relief! Its so horrible to see a loved one begging for pain relief. He wants Dad to go upto see his GP next week just to go over his meds etc...check on him overall. District nurse also came again to change his dressing.
